Philippe Newlin

Philippe Newlin is a 20+ year wine professional with experience in importing, distribution, retail, and education. Philippe is currently the National Wine Director for the City Winery Group. Prior to joining CW, he ran all Bordeaux and imported wine buying for the internet retailer Wine.com. He has also opened and built Duclot USA, the US importing and distribution business for the famed Moueix family of Petrus renown. He began his career in wine distribution with the fine wine importer VINTUS. Prior to working on the commercial side of the wine business, Newlin was the Tastings Director and an Associate Editor at Wine & Spirits Magazine.
Philippe holds the Diploma degree of the Wine and Spirits Education Trust of London, the highest accreditation of this important industry body. He teaches the introduction-to-wine courses at Yale’s School of Management and at Columbia University’s School of Business Administration where his classes sell-out quickly. He has also lectured at Wharton, Harvard Business School, Dartmouth’s Tuck School, MIT Sloan and WGBH Boston.
A native New Yorker, Newlin graduated from Trinity College with a B.A. in political science, and from Columbia’s School of International Affairs with a Master’s degree in diplomacy. Newlin has driven a yellow cab in NYC, lived in the jungles of South America as a Peace Corps Volunteer, and spent fourteen years on Wall Street trading floors as a currency options specialist at UBS and Bank of America before succumbing to the pleasures of the grape.
