Cassie Piuma

Chef & Co-Owner | Sarma

Cassie Piuma is the Chef and Co-Owner of Sarma, a celebrated Eastern Mediterranean restaurant in Somerville, Massachusetts. A Massachusetts native, she developed a love for food and restaurants early on, eventually pursuing a culinary education at Johnson & Wales University.

Her culinary career began with hands-on experience in some of the region’s most respected kitchens, including Al Forno in Providence, Sel de la Terre in Boston, and The Butcher Shop by Chef Barbara Lynch. However, it was her time at Oleana in Cambridge, working alongside Chef Ana Sortun, that had the most profound influence on her approach to cooking. Over more than a decade, she honed her craft, mastering the use of spices and bold flavors while rising from line cook to Chef de Cuisine.

In 2013, Piuma partnered with Sortun to open Sarma, a restaurant that reflects her passion for the flavors and traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean, brought to life through a lively, casual, and shareable dining experience. Her dedication to quality, creativity, and hospitality has made Sarma a standout in Boston’s dining scene, earning acclaim for its innovative approach to mezze and vibrant, spice-driven cuisine.
