Chef Fernanda Tapia plating a dish

Fernanda’s love affair with food started at a very young age. In her hometown of Chile, she grew up admiring and eating her mother’s comfort foods while venturing out with her father on epic food adventures. You could find 7 year old Fernanda slurping oysters on the half shell, eating piure at the fish market, and ordering abalone and ceviche at restaurants.

But it wasn’t until her senior year in college at Brandeis University that she decided to take the leap and turn what she loved most into her career. After attending culinary school at Boston University, she honed her skills on the line at great restaurants in Boston, received a Zagat 30 under 30 recognition, and successfully opened her very own South American tapas restaurant Comedor (which served the most epic chicken wings for over 6 years in Newton Centre). There, she received “Best of Boston” awards in 2016 & 2017, won a Star Chef’s all expenses paid trip to Argentina, and had multiple appearances (and cough cough wins!) on Food Networks’ Chopped and Beat Bobby Flay. Fourteen years later, Fernanda is still doing what she loves the most: cooking!

After selling her beloved Comedor in 2020, Fernanda decided to open her own private chef business. At FernCooks, she dedicates herself wholeheartedly to bringing restaurant quality food to people’s homes. She provides an array of services, but her absolute favorites are intimate dinner parties with wild menus, bold flavors, and more importantly great times.
